Dieter Mann

Actor and audience favourite, sensitive, serious, unagitated, with a love of accuracy

Dieter Mann was a great figure in Berlin theatre. For decades he was on stage at the Deutsches Theater, of which he was also the artistic director for several years in the 1980s. But he was not only celebrated on theatre stages, Mann also played in cinema films, for example in Oliver Hirschbiegel's "Der Untergang". In 2020, the Bundesverband Schauspiel awarded him for his life's work: His love of accuracy and thinking made him a favourite with the public, it said in the citation, his acting was sensitive, serious, unagitated and analytical. Dieter Mann, who also worked as a director and university lecturer, was born in Berlin on 20 June 1941. Already in the GDR he became a darling of the public, especially thanks to his role as Edgar Wibeau in Ulrich Plenzdorf's "Die neuen Leien des jungen W.". Dieter Mann died on 3 February 2022 in Berlin.
